Best contacted with Indonesian customer A in 2010. Customer A chose AT346, 40% super high content antistatic & slip masterbatch for sample test. Compared with similar products’ 10-15% content in the market, our AT346 is 3 times more in content. Since it is the first time to use super high content masterbatch, they have some questions listed as below:
Q1: AT346 is linear granular shaped, so it is hard to slip into the opening of screw barrel from charging hole.
A1: Since AT346 is 40% high content, if it is round shaped instead of linear shaped, the loss of chemical abstract will be high because of larger contact area with water in underwater cutting for round shape particles. The only difference between linear shaped and round shaped is using habits. There is no influence on charging actually.
Q2: 40% high content is too high to ensure good disperse property.
A2: 40% high content will not cause disperse problem. During film production process, PP materials and additive are melt, extruded and then stretched. The temperature during stretching process reaches 260℃. But the melting point of additive is only 50℃. So the additive could be completely mixed together with raw materials and uniformly dispersed. We sell 200-300 ton of AT346 monthly. There are dozens of 8 meter BOPP production lines using this kind of masterbatch. We have not received any complaint about the dispersity problem. On the contrary, we always receive good using feedback from the customers. If you still worry about the dispersity, you can premix the masterbatch and PP by 1:2 or higher proportion.
Q3: The production condition is at 35-40℃ and 80% high humidity. When use 0.8% dosage of AT346, it only takes 18 hours reaching CDT=4sec. The migration speed to surface is too fast. So we worry about that the antistatic effect comes and goes fast.
A3: The reason for high speed migration is high temperature and humidity. If you want moderate migration speed of antistatic agent, you can decrease the dosage to 0.6-0.7%. Compared with similar products on the market, our AT346 has higher ratio of ET Amine and relatively lower ratio of GMS. The migrating rate of GMS is very fast, but it doesn’t have long-lasting antistatic property; the ET Amine has very good long-lasting antistatic property, but it migrates slowly. The formula of higher proportion of ethoxyamine and lower proportion of GMS makes our AT346 have fast and long-lasting antistatic property.
Q4: Is AT346 suitable for printing film?
A4: AT346 is very suitable for printing film. It will not affect film gloss and haze and also no bad effects on printing performance. Its slip performance is very good especially in high temperature and humidity environment.
After technical communication in several months, the customer got very satisfactory testing results with 0.6% dosage of AT346. Best became the customer’s long-term stable supplier from then on.
